The Lego Activity Center is located next to the beautiful Yangfushan Park in Wenling city. The design team, led by Donny Fan and including Young Chen and Ting Ting Fan, chose the concept of "play while learning, learn while playing" to create a peaceful, comfortable, and interesting business space. The design features woven elements, lively lighting, and a curved woven amphitheater cabinet, creating a dream-like atmosphere that makes one feel as if they've stepped into a Lego castle.
One of the unique properties of this design is its location in an education, culture, and business sectors neighborhood, forming a dynamic and energetic society. The design team cleverly disassembled the module of Lego and used the abstract concept of transcending shape to create this unique space. The round curvy window on the second floor and the curved woven amphitheater cabinet both contribute to the lovely and lively space atmosphere.
The design team paid special attention to the material selections, considering the space is children-oriented. The hall uses non-toxic, non-scent, and environmentally friendly paint, and the floor is paved with materials refined from linseed oil, ensuring a healthy environment for children. The project was originally a double-height one-story building with an unfavorable layout, but through reverse planning, the design team turned the disadvantages into advantages, creating a single volume within the space.
The Lego Activity Center is not just a space for fun and learning, but also a testament to the design team's ingenuity and creativity. The design team faced the challenge of transforming the original position of the structure into an advantage. They combined the atrium function as the main interaction and rest space function, and placed a curved wooden cabinet amphitheater which not only has a function to store books but also to link with the circular basket.
This project, completed in July 2019, is a benchmark for creative educational spaces. The design team's choice of "play while learning, learn while playing" as the concept of the design has resulted in a space that is not only comfortable and peaceful but also interesting and engaging. The Lego Activity Center is a testament to the power of design in creating spaces that inspire and educate.
